[ the royale is easy. he's heard pree mention it before, on quieter nights when the drink flowed and even those working the bar were a little looser than normal, about how it's the heart of oldtown. it's a bit more of an optimistic spin on the place than alvis might consider himself, but he's still hard-pressed to disagree, given the way people gravitate towards it and how they trickle and ripple back out. he appreciates anything that adds life and colour to the pale-grey uniform that blankets oldtown on a good day, and smothers it on anything else.
(he would argue though, perhaps, that it isn't the building so much as the man who runs it, but that's more direct than he usually cares for and he knows the response he would get if he did, so. it remains an understood but unspoken sentiment.)
it's probably not the best idea for him to be here, but he's allowed to make questionable choices here and there. (as long as they only involve himself.) the place is "closed" in as much as it can ever be, and it's that part of the day where people can't decide whether to say 'tomorrow' or 'today', or 'it's late' or 'it's early'. the only people still out are those with either too much on their minds to be doing anything else, or too little within them to consider their own safety. or weird jobs, maybe. ]

[ pree trusts whoever is still here, so alvis doesn't feel bad offering d'avin the drink he's just set down in front of him. d'avin's been here for a little while now - alvis isn't totally sure how long; he was having a conversation with pree here and there and otherwise one with himself, but in the time he has been aware of d'avin, the guy hasn't instituted any conversation beyond the minimum required to order a drink. the jaqobis are definitely different people, but neither of them is really all that taciturn. ]
