[ well that sounds like a reasonable use of time, and he doesn't have much better to do right now. it's kind of weird, actually. ]

[ she totally texted him while they were both at home. so here's dutch at his door, jacket half pulled on. ]

[ he's swapped his robes for some more general clothing here - it honestly feels about as odd to be out of them as it does to be in them in such a drastically different place anyway. plus it's a little less chilly this way. ]

It is kind of a weird correlation. [ the kissing/pant connection. not that he thinks she's wrong - it's not as though he hasn't noticed the larger numbers of people happily showing affection here and there ]

[ dutch is still in the same kind of wardrobe she's always worn, which is varied enough that she has items that fit in and some that don't. ]

Must be something about that plant.

You think it gives off some kind of pheromone?

We've seen stranger things.

[ wry amusement. more or less apparently the only kind of amusement alvis ever seems to experience. ]

So what are we actually hoping to find, right now?

[ so he did. ]

Why everyone's doing that.

So we're looking for the nearest couple making out under a twig and just sort of. Tapping them on the shoulder to ask a question about motivation?

[motivation]

[ ugh alvis, don't ruin her quest with facts and logic. ]

Got a better idea?

No.

[ that was why that was what he assumed they were doing. it's a terrible idea, but short of asking whomever they run into about it who may or may not even know about it he can't think of another method.

he just wanted to be sure that was the plan, since. well. it's terrible. ]

[motivation]

Then shut it and walk with me.

[ if they can't figure it out through observation and trial and error (standing under a mistletoe, seeing if there's any particular urge to kiss, just asking is probably their best bet. ]

[ well if she wants a quiet walking buddy she definitely came to the right guy. he didn't have much to say beyond that anyway, and then she told him to shut up and well. even if he had had more to say, he would have shut up, if only because it's always interesting to see her dichotomy in play.

anyway, he figures there might be some kind of trial and error, although he's not entirely thinking about it like that. more like asking a ton of people, if they can run into them appropriately. not that he's adverse to personal experiments. it's just not coming to mind immediately. ]

[ they find a mistletoe before they find people and dutch halts their small progression. there's really no convenient spot to stand and watch the space under the mistletoe without making it obvious that that is what they're doing, so dutch shrugs.

and moves to stand under it. ]
